Social Work and Human Services

Social workers and human services professionals are concerned with promoting human rights and social justice. In particular, they are involved in the planning and provision of services for individuals, families, groups and communities who experience disadvantage or personal and social difficulties.

All programs allow students to gain skills in developing policy, lobbying for social change, providing counselling, mediation and advocacy, administering community programs and researching social issues. Intensive fieldwork assignments throughout the programs will provide experience working with children, youth, adults and older people who may be experiencing difficulties.

Who will employ me?
Social workers have excellent employment opportunities. Current vacancy levels are very high according to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. There are also strong employment opportunities overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom.
