Social Work

This is a professional degree designed to prepare students with an undergraduate degree in a related field for entry level professional practice in Social Work.

The program design builds on students' undergraduate award so that the recognised foundation knowledge base is extended. The courses in the program provide content about social work knowledge and practice. Field education is a critical part of the program allowing students to apply knowledge and skill within an organisational context and with the support of a qualified social work practitioner.

The program has a major focus on leadership, innovation and research driven practice. It develops understanding of social work values and ethics with particular emphasis on human rights. Students develop skills in working with individuals, groups, communities and organisations. Particular focus is given to contemporary issues and the curriculum particularly addresses mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, child protection and cross cultural practice.

Students can complete the program on a full-time or part-time basis. The timetable arrangements have been designed to accommodate students who wish to maintain employment.
