Questions:


Q - what is the "Network Printing" service?

A - This service allows you to print a job DIRECTLY to a Document Services network printer from your network connected PC. A job of any size can be sent from ANY application resident on your PC.


Q - who can use this service?

A - Any UniSA staff member who is logged on to the Uninet network using their authenticated staff username and password may use this service.


Q - how do I connect my PC to the "B&W" Document Services network printer?

A - Follow these simple steps to connect your computer to our Network Printing Service  "BLACK & WHITE" printer queue:

  • Click START, Printers and Faxes, Add a Printer
  • Select "Network Printer", click next
  • Select "Connect to this printer"
  • Type \\DSPRINTSVR\BLACKPRINTER  and click "next"
  • Choose "NO" for default printer, click "next"
  • Click FINISH

On successful completion of these simple steps a new "Black and White" printer will have been set up on your computer. It will be available for use whenever you PRINT from within ANY application on your computer.


Q - how do I connect my PC to the "COLOUR" Document Services network printer?

A - Follow these simple steps to connect your computer to our Network Printing Service  "BLACK & WHITE" printer queue:

  • Click START, Printers and Faxes, Add a Printer
  • Select "Network Printer", click next
  • Select "Connect to this printer"
  • Type \\DSPRINTSVR\COLOURPRINTER and click "next"
  • Choose "NO" for default printer, click "next"
  • Click FINISH

On successful completion of these simple steps a new "COLOUR" printer will have been set up on your computer. It will be available for use whenever you PRINT from within ANY application on your computer.


Q - having previously set up a "B&W" or "COLOUR" printer, how do I use the service?

A - follow these simple steps to print to either the "B&W" or "COLOUR" networked printer at Document Services:

  • OPEN your chosen authoring program (eg MS Word, Publisher, Pagemaker etc)
  • OPEN the document you wish to print.
  • Use FILE, PRINT and select either the "B&W" or "COLOUR" network printer queue
  • Click CLOSE (NB NOT "Print" at this stage)
    • You will now see your original document on the screen.
    • You should check it carefully to ensure that the pagination, formatting and layout are EXACTLY as you expect, and adjust as required.
    • When you are satisfied that the pagination, formatting and layout as displayed are correct, proceed to the next step.
  • Select FILE, PRINT, and after a final check that the paper size and orientation selected are what is required, click OK.

Your print will be directed to the MONO or COLOUR printer queue at Document Services. It will be actioned by Document Services staff when a corresponding "Print Request" (Print Job Specification) is received from you.


Q- how do I send a Print Request Form with instructions on how to print the job I have just submitted?

A - Jobs submitted to either of these queues are actioned when we receive a "Print Request Form" (Print Specification) from the staff member who submitted the job. A "Print Request Form" may be submitted as follows:

  • Use a handwritten "Print Request Form", commonly available in Pads from your school office OR available for download from here.
  • Specify your requirements (number of copies, finishing style, delivery address(es) etc).
  • Ensure that a cost centre code for charging is included on the form, and that it is duly authorised for payment and for copyright compliance
  • FAX the completed form to extension number 26967 at Document Services or send it via internal mail to:  Document Service, Underdale.
