Preamble

The University of South Australia has accepted the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (released by the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Research Council and Universities Australia) and also abides by other relevant federal and state government requirements governing ethical practice in research. 

 

Policy

Members of the University of South Australia undertaking research are required to abide by guidelines and policies governing ethics and responsible practice in research. 

 

Procedures

1. The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research replaces the NHMRC/AVCC Joint Statement and Guidelines on Research Practice. The University abides by the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. 

2. The Code requires that institutions have clearly formulated policies on the maintenance of records, retention of data, publications and authorship, management of intellectual property, research training (where appropriate), confidentiality and conflict of interest. 

2.1    Maintenance of records, retention of data, publications and authorship 

The University has an Authorship Policy and guidelines on the retention of research data. 

2.2    Management of intellectual property 

The University Activities Policy incorporates policy on the management of intellectual property. 

2.3    Research training 

The University has in place a Code of Good Practice for Research Degree Supervision. 

2.4    Confidentiality and conflict of interest 

The University Activities Policy incorporates policy on confidentiality

Potential conflicts of interest in research are to be disclosed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President (Research & Innovation). This may be at the time of submitting an application for funding, submitting a document for publication, accepting a research grant etc. The Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President (Research & Innovation) will maintain responsibility for disclosing such conflicts of interest to appropriate bodies.
