Bachelor of Medical Science
NEW DEGREE IN 2010!
Offered in collaboration with the Australian National University (ANU) in
Canberra, our new Bachelor of Medical Science
degree will give graduates the
flexibility to explore a diverse range of career opportunities.
All first-year Bachelor of Medical Science students will have the
opportunity to participate in a funded trip to the ANU.
Students are exposed to areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology,
pharmacology, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, human genetics and
immunology. The degree has a particular focus on medical science
communication and practical (hands-on) skill development. The pathway
students choose to follow will depend on the combination of courses taken.
If your passion is to go into a leadership career in medical research, you
can also take up an Honours year, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy upon
completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science.
The Australian Federal Government has announced it will fund a new $200m
Health and Medical Research Institute in Adelaide, which will house up to
675 researchers. This project is due for completion in 2012, and students
who enter the Bachelor of Medical Science program in 2010 will be ideally
placed to take advantage of this new facility.
In addition to gaining 'real-life' exposure to current medical research, up
to five spots at the ANU will be set aside for high-achieving UniSA students
to study medicine.

Sir
Gustav Nossal
Australian of the Year 2000
"I would like to give this brief testimonial in favour of the proposed new
joint degree. It is now more important than ever that we give young people a
chance to participate in the great humanitarian adventure of medical and
health research.
The new degree is targeted at a particular cohort of young people and the
possibility to travel interstate and take advantage of the many research
strengths of ANU will be attractive to the more adventurous student."
