The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences understands that students
need access to high quality facilities in order to achieve their best. Our
suite of state of the art laboratories at City East campus provides a high
tech learning environment in the heart of Adelaide’s premier medical
training and research precinct.
Opened in 2005, the Basil Hetzel Building is home to most of the School’s
undergraduate teaching space, including five main laboratories that have
been designed with best-practice teaching, health and safety standards in
mind. Specialised pharmacy, microbiology, biotechnology and
histopathology/haematology labs include up-to-date equipment such as
advanced fume extraction systems and computer modelling facilities.
The Chemplus model pharmacy is equipped with computers and dispensing
systems similar to those used in real pharmacies, as well as multimedia equipment to
help students hone their counselling skills. Other features of the building
include the 338-seat Mutual Community lecture theatre and a large outdoor
plaza.
General chemistry and advanced nutrition and food science courses are taught
in new custom-built laboratories in the Reid Building, which is also home to
the School’s three research centres.
Other facilities at City East campus include modern computer pools, a
health
and fitness centre, library, bookshop and café, as well as various health
clinics offering podiatry,
physiotherapy,
psychology
and mammography services.
