-  Ethnopharmacology (chemical and pharmacological study of substances used as traditional medicines)
-  Antiviral and other antimicrobial compounds from plants
-  Complementary medicines and their use in the community

Current Research projects include:
-  Investigation of the anti-infective activity of extracts from plants used as medicines by the Australian Aboriginal peoples
-  A survey of complementary medicine use by different patient groups at the Women's and Children's Hospital (Adelaide)

Teaching Areas:
Teaching is focused in the area of plant medicine, encompassing:

-  Plant chemistry
-  Traditional medicine (including Australian Aboriginal Medicines)
-  Herbal and other complementary medicines
-  Drug discovery from plants
