A classification of programs based on similarity in terms of the vocational field of specialisation or the principal subject matter of the program. The 2 digit Broad Field of Study groups or Speciality Area are:

Indicates whether a student is studying at an onshore or offshore campus

Internal/External
Identifies the mode of attendance by which the student undertakes a program:
- Internal - Internal Mode or Multi-modal of Attendance at an onshore or offshore campus
- External - External Mode of Attendance at an onshore or offshore campus
Attendance Mode
Identifies the mode of attendance by which the student undertakes a program:
- Internal - Internal mode of attendance at an onshore or offshore campus
- External - External mode of attendance at an onshore or offshore campus
- Mixed - Multi-modal attendance at an onshore or offshore campus
Full Time/Part Time
Identifies whether a student is classified as being a full-time or part-time student
- Full-time - Full-time attendance (Load for all the programs being undertaken is 0.75 or more)
- Part-time - Part-time attendance (Load for all the programs being undertaken is less than 0.75)
Commence Date
A code which indicates the year and month in which the student commenced the current program for the first time
Commence Year
In completions tables only. A code which indicates the year in which the student commenced the current program for the first time
Years Since Commenced
In completions tables only. The total number of years that a student took to complete their award. Periods of leave taken from the program are included in the time taken
Commencing/Continuing
Indicates whether the student is commencing or continuing their studies
Total Exemption %
Percentage of a student's program for which they have been granted exemption. An exemption is granted by an institution when a student is not required to undertake a part of a course, a course or courses because of prior studies or work experience.
HECS Exemption Status

Excludes OPRS and SOPF students who have category 818 visas. |
| Overseas - non-fee | An overseas student who is not a fee-paying overseas student but is subject to the Overseas Student Charge arrangements |
| FPOS Sponsored | A fee-paying overseas student who is sponsored under a foreign aid program. | Bridging | A non-overseas disadvantaged student enrolled in an enabling program (i.e. bridging or supplementary program). |

| Research over limit | A non-overseas student enrolled in a Higher Doctorate. Ph.D by research or thesis, or Masters degree by research or thesis program who has exceeded the maximum time limit for completion of such a program. |
| 29 | A non-overseas student who is paying tuition fees for a remedial or fast tracking course, or courses in a non-standard semester. |

Stage of Program
Indicates the 'year' of the program the student is studying. E.g. Stage 1 = '1st year'. From 2000, the stage has been calculated by the total number of units for the student.(Every 36 units are considered as 1 year completed).

Equity Scope Indicator
Indicates the scope within which students are considered for equity status:
- Yes - includes those students whose citizenship status is Australian, New Zealand or permanent resident, and are not enrolled in an open learning or cross institutional program
- No - includes all other students not included in the above criteria
