Definitions
Scope of student data
- 2001: includes students who were enrolled and consumed load during the reporting year as at 31 March.
- 2002-2004: includes students who were enrolled and consumed load during the reporting year as at 31 August.
- 2005 on: includes students who were enrolled and consumed load during the reporting year as at 31 December.
Resident Status
-
Domestic: students who are Australian citizens, are New Zealand citizens or hold a permanent residence visa.
- International: non-domestic students enrolled in programs operated on Australian campuses, including students studying by external mode.
- Transnational: non-domestic students enrolled in programs operated on offshore campuses.
Program Level
Higher Degree Research: Doctorate by research and Masters by research programs.
Higher Degree Coursework: Doctorate by coursework and Masters by coursework programs.
Other Postgraduate: Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma programs.
Undergraduate: Bachelor's Graduate Entry, Bachelor's Honours, Bachelor's Pass, Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma and Diploma programs.
Other: Enabling courses, cross-institutional undergraduate, cross-institutional postgraduate and non-award courses.
Commencing Students
A student enrolling in a program for the first time during the reporting year.
Equity Participation
Equity scope students are Australian students in award or enabling programs.
- Indigenous: students who identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Disability: students who identify as having a disability (hearing, learning, mobility, visual, medical or other).
- Low socioeconomic status: students whose home postcode falls within the lowest quartile of the national population as determined by the ABS Index of Education and Population
- Non-English speaking background: students born overseas who arrived in Australia less than ten years ago and who speak a language other than English at home.
- Rural, Isolated: students whose home residence postcode is identified as rural or isolated according to the Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Areas classification (RRMA) updated by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
