Business Intelligence
The BI team is responsible for establishing and coordinating the
University’s BI strategy, developing and managing a corporate wide
application environment for BI tools and reporting, and establishing a
comprehensive and consistent enterprise data resource that meets the
information needs of the University.
The Intent
The University's Business Intelligence (BI) framework is designed to
- facilitate and improve the agility and competitiveness of the University
- empower staff to make better informed decisions and actively
contribute to corporate performance - enhance processes, methodologies, metrics and technologies used in performance monitoring and improvement.
This is achieved by
- effecting an open information culture
- providing meaningful, accurate and timely information

implementing the right tools, technology and resources.
The Team
The Business Intelligence team comprises information and technology
professionals who support the BI framework by
- consulting and collaborating with stakeholders to meet their needs
- demonstrating an understanding and commitment to the corporate direction
- providing a dedicated approach to promoting usability
- maintaining a proactive spirit that supports system and process improvement.
This is achieved by
- developing and integrating data and business processes for the University's information environment
- working collaboratively with ISTS, system owners and key stake holders to identify information requirements
- developing and designing data into a meaningful format, such as PowerPlay cubes and reports
- identifying and managing the conversion of local data and manipulation routines into the enterprise data warehouse (this diagram shows the process of gathering Corporate data)
- empowering staff to use information through training, support and professional development
- providing training and support for the UniSAinfo Reporting and Enterprise Planning environments
- identifying, documenting and improving processes and guidelines for all types of users - report consumers, cube developers, and internal BI staff
- keeping staff informed of new BI initiatives through our website, newsletters and focus/feedback groups.
