Business Intelligence System Steering Group
Terms of Reference, Membership and Meetings
Purpose
The Business Intelligence System Steering Group (BISSG) will provide oversight of the development of the strategic information management and reporting environment to ensure that it is meeting the strategic needs of the University.
Within guidelines established by the Information, Intelligence and IT Management Group (IMG), it will prioritise the development of the strategic information management and reporting environment, and monitor progress. It will also develop and enforce data quality standards.
Terms of Reference (2008)
- Oversee the development and implementation of the Strategic Information Management and Reporting Plan.
- Recommend priority areas for information and reporting development consistent with strategic guidance provided by the Information, Intelligence and IT Management Group (IMG).
- Oversee processes for review of all IT systems and major initiatives for strategic information and reporting impact.
- Ensure communication strategies are in place for the University in terms of priorities, implementation and dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure that the information available through the system is of the best possible quality and appropriate timeliness.
- Recommend policy and policy revision initiatives to IMG in relation to data quality, strategic information management and reporting.
- Enforce data quality standards to ensure that the information available is of the best possible quality.
Membership
Committee membership is as follows:
- Executive Director: Finance and Resources (Chair)
- Pro Vice Chancellor: Strategy and Planning
- Director: Information Strategy and Technology Services
The Executive Officer role will be performed by:
- Manager: Business Intelligence (Executive Officer)
The BISSG will actively seek advice from the data owners and other experts in its decision making processes, in particular from:
- Director: Finance
- Director: Human Resources
- Director: Learning and Teaching Unit
- Director: Marketing and Development
- Director: Planning and Assurance Services
- Director: UniSA International
- Deputy Director: Academic Services
- Deputy Director: Research and Innovation Services
Other subject experts will be invited on an as required basis.
Reporting Relationship
The Business Intelligence System Steering Group (BISSG) shall report to IMG through the Chair.
Each member also reports to their respective business area and is responsible for communicating decisions and information of the BISSG to those staff members.
All additional formal communication from the group will be coordinated by the Chair and Executive Officer.
