Pharmaceutical science is all about harnessing science and technology to
prevent illness, treat disease and improve quality of life. Are you
interested in being involved in the development of drugs from their initial
discovery right through to their eventual commercialisation? What
about being behind a medical discovery that helps save lives and improve
quality of life?
This degree is unique in that it can lead to a variety of career paths, from
drug development and clinical trials, to marketing and commercialisation.

UniSA's Bachelor of Nursing program has been designed to prepare nurses
to meet healthcare delivery requirements of the 21st century and respond to
Australian and international healthcare trends. As well as studying
contemporary theory content, in both a traditional and online environment,
students undertake a range of practical learning experiences through
simulation based learning in nursing laboratories as well as placements.
Nurses play a key role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals who
are sick, injured or in need of health support programs. Nurses work
in a variety of health care settings including community health centres,
hospitals, aged and rehabilitative care facilities, industrial sites,
schools and the homes of individuals.
Midwives play an important role in health counselling and education for
women, their families and the community. They are involved in family
planning, pregnancy, labour, birth, and working with women and their
families after childbirth. Midwifery is a challenging and fulfilling career
with excellent employment opportunities.

With the increasing demands on our healthcare system we need workers who understand the health issues that society is facing both now and into the future. The Bachelor of Health Science prepares graduates for a non-clinical role in the health sector. In an effort to prepare you for the much needed multi-disciplined approach to the healthcare industry, you will study courses in biological, behavioural and social sciences, alongside students who are studying in a range of allied health programs. You will also choose courses from a number of specialisations including administrative management, adult and community education, commerce, human resource management, management accounting, management of information technology, counselling studies, psychology and marketing to prepare yourself for a variety of roles in the areas of health promotion, health policy and health care management.

Medical scientists play a critical role in health care in supporting medical practitioners in the diagnosis and management of disease; conducting research into the causes and cures of disease; and developing improved tests for disease detection. This talk will provide you with information about the nature of the profession and the graduate opportunities available. Unique to UniSA, this program places students in diagnostic laboratories for a full year of "real-world" experience. Come and discover the science of diagnosis and hear how this can lead to an exciting future career.

Our Nutrition and Food Sciences program will lead you into a rewarding professional career contributing to the health and wellbeing of our society. As a graduate you will be able to use your creative and scientific skills to design and manufacture new foods, including many functional foods. Employment opportunities are in the health, food and beverage industries. You could be involved in evaluating and communicating the health benefits of foods, investigating food poisoning, product development, and monitoring food quality.

Podiatry
Podiatry - Stepping into the future

Did you know the human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles and tendons? The 52 bones in your feet make up about 25 percent of all the bones in your body! Podiatrists have the interesting task of diagnosing and treating problems of the feet. Their work can involve a wide range of areas, including sports, paediatrics, surgery, biomechanics and community education, as well as the management of common foot disorders. Podiatrists may work in private practice or can be employed in hospitals or community health settings both in Australia and overseas.
