OHSW issues when working offshore

Introduction

This procedure outlines the requirements for the management of health and safety in relation to those employed or engaged to work for the University at offshore workplaces.

Definitions

Employee working offshore means a person employed or engaged under a contract of service or a contract for service who is sent by the University to work offshore or who is a resident of the country and who is recruited to work offshore.

Procedure

Line Managers shall ensure that systems are established for the management of health and safety of personnel employed or engaged to work offshore for the University.

Line Managers shall research differences in OHSW and other laws and cultural aspects of the offshore work location affecting health and safety and provide information to prospective and engaged employees.

Employees or those engaged to work offshore are to be appropriately inducted in accordance with the OHSW Procedure – OHSW Induction and provided with a copy of University OHSW policies and procedures that may be relevant to the work to be undertaken and the locality.

Line Managers responsible for identifying the foreseeable hazards associated with the offshore work requirements, the working environment and the systems of work shall complete risk assessments and implement risk controls in accordance with the OHSW Procedure Hazard Management.
