Introduction
This procedure outlines requirements for staff to inform undergraduate and postgraduate students of University health and safety requirements in workplaces.
Roles and Responsibilities
Line Managers are responsible for:
- implementing this procedure in their area of responsibility
- ensuring that students are informed of their health and safety responsibilities.
Course Coordinators are responsible for:
- ensuring that course information distributed to students informs them of relevant health and safety requirements.
Staff are responsible for:
- ensuring students in the workplace use appropriate risk control measures for identified hazards
- reporting to the Line Manager any hazards associated with the students’ working environment, work tasks or activities
- ensuring students do not place themselves or others at risk of injury.
Students are responsible for:
- not placing themselves or others at risk of injury
- reporting hazards associated with their class or other activities to the relevant staff member
- reporting every incident and injury irrespective of its seriousness to the relevant staff member.
Procedure
The University has a requirement to protect the health and safety of undergraduate and postgraduate student in workplaces. The OHSW Procedures developed to meet the University’s responsibilities for health and safety cover a wide range of activities and many of them are relevant to normal student activities.
Staff with responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate students shall inform them of any health and safety requirements and monitor their behaviour and use of appropriate control measures to meet these requirements.
