The five weeks of Final Practicum have flown and it is hard to believe that the end is in site. I still have Professional Issues 4 to go and then I am finished. Not long now!
My Practicum has been fantastic. It all worked out and I ended up going to the RAH on S8. I have had a great time there and have learnt so much!! It is a great ward because it is full of different things. It has the ID (infectious diseases) patients and it also has 6 cardiac beds (chest pain for investigation) and also DKA beds (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). It also is becoming a trachy ward and therefore I have seen a great cross section of different things.
I have been able to take bloods, insert jelcos, do peg feeds, watched a Dip thallium scan and a stress test, saw an underwater seal drain being inserted and learnt how to change a PICC Line dressing today, to highlight just a few.
Thank you to all of the team for a great three years of nursing. It will be sad to go to full-time work next year. I will enjoy the money but I will miss the Uni lifestyle and the study. I will definitely be back to do post grad courses the year after next.
