Emily (Haiying) Wang (Bachelor of Nursing)
I
am an international student and currently I am studying a Bachelor of
Nursing at UniSA. I enjoy my student life at UniSA and my study
with the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Before I came to UniSA, I was told that this university has good reputation for its practicability. After two years study, now I want to say it is true.
At the university, I am not only taught the nursing knowledge, but also the skills for an individual’s development, like life-long learning, critical thinking. It does not matter if you are a nurse or not, these skills will benefit your whole life.
Also, there are many international students at the university, you can make different friends and learn different cultures. it has been a good experience in my life.

Danielle Heykoop (Bachelor of Nursing, Whyalla)
My first taste of living away
from the family home in Porthope, Ontario at a young age, was when I
travelled to Costa Rica on a 3 month student exchange program as a sixteen
year old. I then made an initial trip to Australia in 2001 for a month long
holiday.
Then one day I simply decided that I wanted to go to Australia to live and
study. I believe that experience is the best educator.
For some it was hard to believe, but I chose to study at a regional campus
in South Australia to complete my nursing degree. I was looking for a change
and I thought that nobody does the regional experience, so I will!
I knew there would be other Canadian and American students if I chose the
Adelaide option. I like the fact that I am the only Canadian student, and
one of a handful of international students at Whyalla. It makes you feel
very individual and important.
In my classes in Whyalla, I am one of 25-30 students in a course, rather
than one of 120-1000 in Canada. The lecturers knew our names on the first
session, it was awesome!
When I finish my studies I hope to become a practicing midwife in Australia.
In Canada midwifery is very regional, whereas in the city you go to a doctor
to have a baby so I suppose I have been more geared to a regionally based
occupation which I am now choosing to do in Australia.
