Student Information Regarding Clinical Placements

Step 1 Enrol into ELA1, ELA2 or ELA3
Step 2 Before Placement

Step 3 Submit Following Documents to CPU
 
  1. National Police Clearance with signed Consent & Authority to Release form
  2. Senior First Aid Certificate
  3. All students attending SA venues must read the Placement Orientation Information for Nursing and Midwifery Students (Word Doc, 473KB) and complete attachment 1 (Compulsory Checklist). (This is a Department of Health Requirement to read, then complete Attachment 1).
Step 4 Venue Preference and Selection
 
  1. Student receives email from Clinical Placement Unit (CPU) regarding dates for viewing and selecting venue preference via SONIA. Please view FAQs if you are an interstate student as a different protocol is followed.
  2. At scheduled time (usually 3 months before placement), student goes into SONIA and submits 3 preferences.
  3. It is the student's responsibility to check the requirements of the venues, such as: immunisations, shifts expected, location of venue, and National Police Clearance (within last 12 months required for Calvary Health Care venues).
Step 5 Venue Confirmation
 
  1. Student Receives another email from CPU instructing them to re-enter SONIA to view their allocated placement and venue.
  2. Student is advised via orientation email what to bring to placement, who their facilitator is, facilitator's contact details, time and where to report on the first day of placement.
  3. Students must take note of the Placement Orientation Information for Nursing and Midwifery Students (Word Doc, 473KB) requirements, immunisations, shifts expected, location of venue, and National Police Clearance (Within last 12 months required for Calvary Health Care venues).
  4. Under extenuating circumstances students may request a different placement by filling in a variation to placement form.
Step 6 Day 1 at Placement Venue
 
  1. Students are required to bring relevant documentation to their placement. All students are required to bring a copy of their National Police Clearance with them.
  2. Students are also required to wear a Uniform and name badge
Step 7 Learning on Placement
 
  1. Students outside metro Adelaide may be allocated a 'phone contact-clinical facilitator / lecturer'.
