Australian Registered Nurse/Midwife Training Program (ARDTP)
Information for Overseas Educated Nurses/Midwives
The School of Nursing & Midwifery offers a 32 week non-award professional certificate for overseas educated nurses/midwives who hold dual registration in nursing and midwifery. This program is approved by the Nurses Board of South Australia (nbsa). On successful completion of all program requirements ARDTP graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the nbsa and practice as a registered nurse and midwife in the Australian Health System.
Entry Requirements:
- Certified evidence of being a registered nurse and midwife in country of practice.
- 3 year diploma or 4 year degree in nursing equivalent to the standard of registered nurse preparation in Australia and
- Diploma or degree in midwifery commensurate with the standard of preparation required to register as a midwife in Australia.
- Evidence of English proficiency at IELTS overall 6.5 (Academic) with a minimum of 6 for each band (reading, writing, speaking and listening) or OET minimum of B in reading; writing; speaking and listening.
- Recent practice as a registered nurse/midwife (within the last 2 years) evidenced by a certified employment statement dated in the last 6-12 months.
- Certified evidence from an employer of participation as a registered midwife in a minimum of 100 births.

Important Updates:
- The October 2008 intake is open for applications. Please Note: There will not be an intake in May and October 2009.
- The program timetable for October 2008 intake is listed below.
- Nurses/midwives from non-English speaking backgrounds are expected to have an IELTS 7 or equivalent score to register with the Nurses Board of South Australia. The English language exam, around week 15 of the program, will be an OET (Nursing Version) to test that students are at this level. Students must achieve a B pass in each subscore (i.e. speaking, listening, writing and reading). The ARNTP tuition fee will cover the cost of OET preparation classes and the OET test. Students who need to resit any component of the OET test will need to pay for further tests prior to registration.
Please Note:
- The tuition fee for international students in 2008 is AUD$15,500 plus overseas health cover.
