Natural resource expert appointed to UniSA Council

Dr Wendy
Craik AM has been appointed to the
University of South Australia Council.
UniSA Chancellor, Dr Ian Gould, announced today Dr Craik, a Commissioner with the Productivity Commission since May, and the former CEO of the Murray Darling Basin Commission, had been appointed as an external member to Council for four years.
“Dr Craik is an outstanding candidate with strong management skills who brings with her a wealth of experience in Australia’s natural resource management and agriculture sectors,” Dr Gould said.
“Apart from being extremely well credentialed I am confident she will strongly support the strategic directions of the University.”
Dr Craik, a member of the Board of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2007 for her contribution to natural resource management and rural policy.
She was formerly President of the National Competition Council, and Chair of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority and the National Rural Advisory Council.
She has also served as CEO of Earth Sanctuaries Ltd, a publicly listed company specialising in conservation and eco tourism, Executive Director of the National Farmers Federation and Executive Officer of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. She has also held the position of Council Member with the Australian Institute of Marine Science.
Dr Craik holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the ANU, a PhD (Zoology) from University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and a Graduate Diploma in Management from the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education, Queensland.
Dr Gould said Council endorsed the appointment at its meeting today.
The Council is chaired by the Chancellor and currently comprises 15
members nine of whom are community members.
