UniSA Open Day not just for Schoolies

The one thing that is more and more obvious about working life is that career paths are rarely a straight road.

Recognising that there are many people who do not take the regular route to higher education - the step from year 12 to first-year university – at this year’s Open Day, UniSA is catering for the thousands of 21st century students who are not school leavers, with an Adult Entry Courtyard where they can get information specifically about their study options.

UniSA Student Recruitment Manager, Darren McInnes says there are a very significant number of our future students who are not fresh out of high school.

“More than 40 per cent of UniSA students are what we define as ‘adult entry’,” McInnes said.

“That takes in a wide range of people – those moving from TAFE to further their studies; career-changers; people who have tried working and decided they really do want to come to uni after all; and those discovering, now that they are a little older, that learning is something they want to invest in.”

Now UniSA is providing new entry options to 18-year-old students who may have left school in years 10 or 11.

“The adult entry pathways into uni, sitting the STAT test or enrolling in Foundation Studies, used to be available only to people who were 21 years or over,” McInnes said.

“But we have realised that students who chose to leave school early often change their minds pretty quickly and they want a way back into uni sooner rather than later.”

He said the Adult Entry Courtyard at Open Day would provide the right environment for them to sort through their options and see what will work best for them.

Helpful informed staff will be available to discuss program offerings and Open Day will feature 80 lectures, live action at UniSA’s moot court, music, barbecues, coffee, competitions, and a chance to see why City West is a multi-award winning campus.
