Growth for UniSA's five star MBA
For
the second year in a row, UniSA has scored the maximum five star rating
for its Master of
Business Administration (MBA).
It is one of just eight universities Australia-wide to be awarded this
honour, determined by the Graduate
Management Association of Australia, and published in the
Good Universities Guide
- one of the nation's most highly regarded guides to MBA selection.
The MBA has also ranked sixth in the
Australian Financial
Review (AFR) BOSS MBA survey for 2009. In the last survey, conducted
in 2007, the UniSA MBA was ranked seventh in the country.
The AFR BOSS survey assesses attributes such as entry requirements,
faculty qualifications, research outputs and alumni impressions across
18 MBA programs Australia-wide to determine the best overall MBA
performers.
Professor Malcolm Wright of UniSA's
International Graduate School of
Business says that the UniSA MBA is the only one in the State to be
offered by an internationally accredited business school. The Division
of Business is one of only eight Australian business schools accredited
by the
European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).
Prof Wright says enrolments in the program have continued to rise,
increasing by 20 per cent in the past 12 months.
“It is not surprising that we are seeing increased postgraduate
enrolments during the financial crisis,” he says.
"When employment prospects are not as strong, people realise it can be a
good time to advance their education.
“But economic uncertainty also brings home the value of education. A
strong qualification gives increased opportunities now, but also
insurance against hard times in the future.”
UniSA MBA Program Director Bob Gilliver says the program’s other
attributes and year-round delivery mode makes it attractive to
candidates.
“A global focus, online study options, flexible contact hours, and an
extensive range of courses to choose from, make the degree supremely
relevant in today’s business environment,” he says.
Many of the program’s graduates have gone on to senior management
positions. Current student Kate Thiele, who has just been appointed
Chief Executive Officer of Guide Dogs (SA and NT), says that UniSA’s MBA
has improved her employability.
“There is no doubt that it has helped me become a better leader and
advanced my career,” she says.
Vice Chancellor Peter Høj says that the five star rating reflects
the dedication of UniSA’s International Graduate School of Business.
“The School works hard to ensure that the program consistently delivers
high quality teaching and an exceptional curriculum,” he says.
“The University is extremely proud of the program and the high calibre
graduates it consistently produces.”
