Mid-year graduations celebrate academic success

Gabrielle Goodman will graduate with an Honours Degree in Interior Architecture at mid-year graduations this weekYears of hard work have paid off for more than 1600 UniSA students who will don academic regalia at mid-year graduation ceremonies this Tuesday and Wednesday (August 4 and 5).

Graduands will take centre stage at the Adelaide Festival Theatre to celebrate the conferring of their degrees ranging from Bachelor degrees, Graduate Diplomas, and Masters and PhDs.

Among those graduating will be 23-year-old Gabrielle Goodman, who has completed an Honours Degree in Interior Architecture.

Gabrielle starts work today as a graduate interior designer with MPH Architects and is looking forward to applying the skills and knowledge acquired during her honours degree.

“I moved to South Australia from New South Wales to study at UniSA because it had the best interior architecture course and holds an excellent reputation around the industry,” she said.

“I’ve got an amazing portfolio from the course and my honours degree brought out a lot in me that I didn’t know I had … the course really encourages me to go beyond the basic job. It’s been a fantastic experience and I’m looking forward to the graduation ceremony.”

Four graduation ceremonies will be held over the two days, with guest speakers at each ceremony.

On Tuesday at 10.30am, Dr David Skellern will address students graduating from the School of Natural and Built Environments, School of Computer and Information Science, School of Electrical and Information Engineering, School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, Institute for Telecommunications Research and the Ian Wark Research Institute. Dr Skellern is a successful Information and Communications Technology entrepreneur with a background in scientific research, industrial research and development and engineering education. He has been Chief Executive Officer of National ICT Australia (NICTA) since mid-2005.

Sunday Mail newspaper Editor Megan Lloyd will speak on Tuesday at 3.00pm to graduates from the School of Communication, International Studies and Languages, School of Art, Architecture and Design, Unaipon School and School of Education.

On Wednesday at 10.30am, students from the School of Commerce, School of Marketing, School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences and School of Health Sciences will hear from Professor Garry Jennings, Director of Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute.

Later that day, at 3pm, Mr John Wardle from architectural practice John Wardle Architects, will address students from the School of Psychology, Social Work and Social Policy, International Graduate School of Business, School of Management, and Business Divisional Office.

UniSA has more than 34,000 students and currently graduates about 8500 students every year.

UniSA offers almost 400 degree programs and is the only university in South Australia to offer programs in physiotherapy, pharmacy, podiatry, medical radiation, civil aviation, journalism, property, human movement and construction management.
