Top business accolade for SA’s collaborative university
Working
with business to research real problems and find workable solutions has
been part of UniSA’s ethos since it was founded some 16 years ago and
yesterday the University was acknowledged for its achievements with one
of the highest awards for collaboration with the business community.
The inaugural Ashley Goldsworthy Award for sustained collaboration between business and higher education was presented to the University’s acting Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Lee at a gala event hosted by the Business/Higher Education Round Table (BHERT) in Melbourne on Friday night (November 21).
Accepting the award Professor Peter Lee said he was proud of UniSA’s ongoing achievements in research, teaching and innovation with the world of business.
“BHERT is an invaluable group in Australian society because it
encourages the vital conversation between business and industry and the
wider research and education community – a conversation that delivers
enormous benefits to the community and the nation,” Prof Lee said.
“One of UniSA’s foundational aspirations was to maintain an approach to
education and research that was relevant in the world. This has meant
the University has made active and entrepreneurial engagement with
business, industry and government part of its core business.
Professor Lee said just one example of UniSA’s ongoing efforts could be seen in Adelaide’s northern suburbs where UniSA had been engaged in developing social capital through its work in the UniSA Northern Areas Partnership program.
“This program has been active now for more than six years working with individuals, companies, schools and colleges, local, state and federal government and organisations such as the Northern Adelaide Manufacturing Industry Group to network and build capacity through education, mentoring and research,” he said.
“This collaboration is a great example of how universities can play a vital role in empowering communities, promoting equity and improving employment and productivity across a whole community in partnership with businesses and industry stakeholders.”
