Five questions critical to sustainable business
Sustainability
issues not only pose a threat to the environment – they also have
potentially catastrophic implications for businesses too.
At a free seminar in Brisbane next week, lecturer in UniSA’s new online Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business program, Dr Geoff Wells will explore the five issues businesses need to address to compete successfully in the Sustainability Age.
“Most businesses are ill-equipped to tackle the sustainability challenges around energy, water, biodiversity and climate change,” Dr Wells says.
“Accounting for carbon emissions is only one aspect that businesses will need to come to terms with.
“Environmentally aware consumers are going to put a lot more pressure on
businesses to deliver ‘green’ products and services. And issues such as
the cost, quality and security of resources will affect the supply side
of the business equation, too.”
Dr Wells says businesses that understand and embrace this concept at an
organisational level will have a competitive advantage.
“Sustainability has moved from a peripheral issue driven by compliance to a core strategy. Those businesses with the knowledge and tools to handle sustainability issues will simply outperform those that do not.”
UniSA’s new leading edge program, the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business (GCSB), has been designed to give managers that knowledge. It is aimed at both senior managers grappling with environmental survival and up-and-coming managers looking for a professional edge.
“This multidisciplinary program has been developed with input from industry and experts in the field.
“And it is delivered online, making it available to managers interstate, overseas and in rural and regional areas,” Dr Wells says.
“Our graduates will be among a managerial elite transforming business for the sustainability age.”
UniSA’s International Graduate School of Business has more than 10 years of experience in running successful masters and graduate programs online for business people.
For further information about the program and the information session, visit the GCSB site where you can also hear Dr Wells in a series of podcasts on sustainable business.
