Trev the gem reaches Coober Pedy -
Report 4 from the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge
It’s
4pm Thursday so this must be Coober Pedy.
Trev, UniSA’s two-seater renewable energy vehicle, glided into the opal capital of the world this afternoon ahead of the rest of the Greenfleet class – and could have made it even earlier, had the team not stopped at the SA border for art’s sake.
“We did the artistic thing and stopped for about half an hour to take a photo of us by the SA border sign,” a chirpy Dr Peter Pudney said.
“Things are going quite nicely, and we did really well today.”
The team planned to stay at Coober Pedy for an hour to check in with officials and to pick up some groceries before pressing on until sunset.
“It’ll be dinner at another roadside parking bay,” Dr Pudney said. “Last night it was pasta and tinned stuff. The food’s been good, even if the service has been less than excellent.”
UniSA’s Trev team expects to drive into Adelaide at around 2pm Saturday with the rest of the Greenfleet class of vehicles.
