Trev's outback surprise -
Report 3 from the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge
UniSA’s
Trev team had a pleasant and welcome surprise at around noon yesterday.
As the team enjoyed a breather by the famed Devils Marbles, a bus with students from the Alekarenge School and other locals about 70km away seeking out solar cars stopped to take a closer look at Trev.
“We spent about an hour talking with them and showing off Trev,” team leader Dr Peter Pudney said.
Trev arrived in Alice Springs at 9.45 this morning, delayed by yesterday’s strong head winds. The team is putting in long days, using every minute of the sunrise to sunset travel window and camping by the roadside at day’s end.
“We’re not getting quite as far as we would have liked on a single charge,” Dr Pudney said. “But we’ve caught up with the Greenfleet and about half of the field is still behind us.”
While the Greenfleet vehicles are heading off to Uluru, the leading solar cars are already well on their way to Coober Pedy. They will be joined by Trev which, as an experimental vehicle, isn’t allowed off the Stuart Highway.
“We’ll be off as soon as I’ve had shower,” Dr Pudney said. “I haven’t had one sine we left Darwin.”
The team is hoping to come into Adelaide with the rest of the
Greenfleet at around 2pm on Saturday.
Report 2 - Trev's doing 100km on less than $1
Report 1 - Team has hiccups but Trev's fine
