UniSA team named for Tour Down Under
Six of the seven riders have been confirmed for the Australian National
UniSA team in the ProTour debut of the Tour Down Under cycling
championship.
Race Director for the 2008 Tour Down Under, Mike Turtur today announced
the line-up of the team, which gained automatic selection in the ProTour
event. The UniSA team includes
Allan Davis (Qld),
Luke Roberts (SA),
Karl Menzies
(Tas),
Wesley Sulzberger (Tas),
Matt Wilson (Vic) and
Simon Clarke (Vic).
Thrilled with the strong line-up of both experience and young talent,
“the 2008 Australian National UniSA team will be as competitive as any
UCI ProTour team,” Turtur said.
Dual Tour Down Under (TDU) stage winner, Allan Davis is the only rider
to have competed in all 10 races and this year crossed the line in
second place at the Milan San Remo classic. He will be joined by local
rider Luke Roberts, a TDU past stage winner and 2004 Olympic Champion in
the teams pursuit; Karl Menzies, who came second overall in the 2007 TDU;
Matt Wilson, the Herald Sun Tour champion; Simon Clark, 2007 TDU Best
Young Rider; and Wesley Sulzberger, silver medallist in the under 23
road race at this year’s World Championships.
The final member of the TDU team will be announced on 13 January, at the
end of the Australian Open Road Championships in Ballarat. The rider who
wins the elite championship will be automatically added to the team.
