Next
week sees the birth of a different Fringe – one dedicated to the
documentary.
The inaugural Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Fringe, to be held at the Mercury and Iris Cinemas on Tuesday February 27, is a day of seminars, workshops and master classes aimed at those who want to learn how the documentary influences the powerful to act differently - and everything from shoestring budget management to camera technique.
The AIDC Fringe is presented by the Media Resource Centre, the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre at UniSA and the Australian International Documentary Conference.
Making the most of renowned filmmakers in Adelaide for the AIDC and the Adelaide Film Festival, the AIDC Fringe has an inspiring program for the next generation of documentary makers and anyone with an interest in documentary.
Topics include The new wave of Australian documentary, A-Z budgeting for the documentary, New models of documentary, Games as documentary and a Local content showcase.
There is also the chance for a team of two or more filmmakers to win the use of Media Resource Centre equipment and editing facilities to the value of $2,000 and $200 in cash in the Fast Furious Four Doco Pitching Contest.
Other AIDC Fringe highlights are the keynote address by British writer, filmmaker, broadcaster and criminologist Roger Graef, arguably best known for The Secret Policeman’s Ball, a masterclass with distinguished Dutch-Indonesian filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich, and the endnote address Global Human Rights and the Camera by human rights lawyer Michael Hourigan.
