UniSA graduation is an international affair

Graduation dayThursday December 20 will be a milestone in the lives of more than 400 graduands from countries across the globe, when they will be conferred with degrees from the University of South Australia at a special graduation ceremony.

To be held at the Adelaide Festival Centre from 2 pm, the graduation ceremony is specifically for UniSA’s onshore international graduands, who will be joined by their relatives in Adelaide from countries far and wide.

Some 408 parchments will be awarded for programs ranging from undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to 188 Masters degrees, three PhDs and one Professional Doctorate.

UniSA’s School of Natural and Built Environments will have its first cohort of 43 graduands from the Beijing University Civil Engineering and Architecture degree program, with six graduands coming from China especially to graduate in Adelaide

Chief Executive of the Department of Trade and Economic Development, Raymond Garrand will deliver the occasional address at the graduation ceremony.

As the government’s key economic development agency, the Department of Trade and Economic Development covers a wide range of areas including trade, population and migration, manufacturing, defence, small business, regional development, investment and major projects.

Mr Garrand is also a board member of Education Adelaide, the Higher Education Council, and Major Projects Coordination Board, and is actively involved in various advisory boards including the Economic Development Board, Manufacturing Consultative Council and the Export Council.

Working for nearly two decades at the highest levels of government in Australia, focusing on economic development issues, Mr Garrand has experience in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and as economic advisor to governments in South Australia and Queensland. He holds an economics degree with honours.
