New leadership at UniSA
Prominent
social and cultural theorist,
Professor Pal Ahluwalia has been appointed Pro Vice Chancellor of
UniSA’s Division of Education,
Arts and Social Sciences.
Since late 2006, Prof Ahluwalia has been Research Chair and Professor of Post-Colonial Studies at UniSA’s Hawke Research Institute and Director of the Centre for Post-Colonial Studies. He is concurrently a Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies, University of California, San Diego.
In announcing the appointment, UniSA Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Høj described Prof Ahluwalia as not only an “amazing researcher who is widely regarded as a leading scholar in his field” but also an experienced manager and strategic thinker.
“I am very excited that Pal will be joining the University of South Australia full-time,” Prof Høj said.
“He is the right leader for this stage of the University’s development, and I believe he will make a marvellous contribution to the overall management of the University, and in particular will enhance the performance of the Division.”
Prof Ahluwalia’s main research interests lie in the areas of African studies, social and cultural theory, in particular, post-colonial theory and the processes of diaspora, exile, migration, and the complexities of identity formation. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences and in September was appointed by DEST to the Social Sciences and Politics panel of the Research Quality Framework.
He takes up his new role at the end of March 2008.
