That dream job: just an elevator ride away

In the modern corporate environment ─ characterised by high output and tight deadlines ─ the traditional CV is an outmoded document which will be replaced by a new form of self-marketing.

Dubbed the Elevator Pitch, the cutting-edge concept is best described as a short, sharp and shiny sales tool emphasising employable qualities over previous experience. It sets forth who you are and how you will perform.

Already making a major impact overseas, the Elevator Pitch is developed by Bill Faust, practical marketing expert and author of the best-selling book Pitch Yourself.

In a session hosted by UniSA’s International Graduate School of Business, Faust will appear in a breakfast workshop on Tuesday, 1 August, 2006, at The Radisson Hotel, North Terrace, Adelaide.

Faust explains that in a competitive job market, potential employers don’t have the time or inclination to trowel through a drab chronological list of previous duties.

“The CV merely shows your past. The Elevator Pitch transforms the way you’re seen by demonstrating your future performance,” he said.

The concept also gains its name from being a “selling mission accomplished in the time it takes to ride an elevator.”

Attendees will come away from the career development morning knowing how to rework their CV to better accommodate the needs of potential employers, thus elevating them above the rest.

The UniSA event is expected to be packed session, with Faust addressing full-houses during previous shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
