Students put business strategies to the test
The University of South Australia will host the South Australian regional final of the Australasia’s premier management competition today (Monday, 29 August), with students from all three SA universities competing for ‘best in class’.
Run by the Boston Consulting Group, the 2005 Business Strategy Competition has reached new heights with the largest number of teams participating at any time in its 14 year history and is as keenly contested as any football or sporting competition at this time of year.
Six SA teams of up to six students from undergraduate and postgraduate programs will participate in the competition. Each team will be given a case study that involves finding a solution to a business problem within a timeframe of three hours. The teams will then present their solutions to a panel of judges who will assess them on teamwork, problem-solving and presentation skills.
The judges comprise Winnie Pelz from WorkCover, Tino Guglielmo from Stuart Petroleum, Anthony Roediger from the Boston Consulting Group and UniSA judge Lindsay Ryan of Strategic Partnerships.
Winners will be rewarded with a cash prize, significant networking opportunities and the potential to fast-track careers in management consulting or with major corporations, but the ultimate accolade will be to be judged ‘best in class’ by some of Australia’s and New Zealand’s leading business executives.
