FREE PUBLIC LECTURE
What is sustainability? And how do we get it right?
What must we do to make sure that today’s technologies and lifestyles do not damage tomorrow’s environment? To find out the answers, the University of South Australia is hosting a free public lecture today (Tuesday 13 September) at the Mawson Lakes campus, and everyone is invited.
Professor Jerzy Filar and Professor Wasim Saman have some solutions and insights that will surprise you as they discuss the technologies and systems being developed at UniSA in collaboration with government, business, industry and the community.
The lecture will reveal innovative new home appliances that use energy more efficiently, intelligent transport systems and healthy solutions in agriculture.
Professors Filar and Saman are directors of UniSA’s Institute for Sustainable Systems and Technologies Initiative, where researchers are developing sustainable solutions, particularly in the built environment.
An applied mathematician with extensive experience in environmental modeling, Professor Filar has worked on a wide range of research projects with the US Environmental Protection Agency, the World Resources Institute, the Defence Science and Technology Organisation and the Sir Keith and Sir Ross Smith Foundation. Professor Filar is Editor-in-chief of Environmental Modeling and Assessment, an international journal published by Springer.
Professor Saman is a mechanical engineer who has worked in energy education and industry-based research in the UK and the Middle East. He is the founding director of UniSA’s Sustainable Energy Centre, which has developed innovative solutions in roof-integrated solar home heating and solar and energy efficient air conditioning systems. His extensive research includes the use of solar thermal energy, waste heat for heating, dehumidification and cooling, and thermal storage systems.
Today’s presentation is part of a series of free UniSA public lectures entitled Discovering a sustainable future that discuss the latest advances in environmental sustainability.
