UniSA seals deal for space research and teaching collaboration

The University of South Australia today signed an agreement with France’s International Space University (ISU) that will underpin an ongoing collaboration to develop Australian expertise in space studies.

UniSA will partner the ISU in its bid to offer education and research opportunities related to the peaceful exploration, development, and use of space around the world.

As an affiliate of the ISU, UniSA will develop and offer student research placement opportunities for international students at UniSA and for local students at the ISU as part of the Master of Space Studies and Master of Space Management.

Academics from UniSA also have the opportunity to teach in the educational programs of ISU, including the ISU Masters Programs, the Summer Session Program and other programs that may be offered by ISU.

UniSA Pro Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Ian Davey said the affiliation agreement was significant for South Australia.

“As a leading educational institution with a high international profile UniSA will offer a gateway for talented scientists to engage with the international space research community,” Prof Davey said.

“This agreement will strengthen the already considerable expertise we offer in space-related teaching and research, particularly in the fields of satellite engineering, operations and applications.”

The agreement will also offer opportunities for cooperation in the use of software, experimental hardware, satellite data and other resources across the two institutions.

The agreement is being signed on the opening day of the ISU’s summer program being held in Australia for the first time this year. The ISU summer program is the world’s most prestigious education event dealing with all aspects of space and is being hosted in South Australia by UniSA and Adelaide and Flinders Universities.
