New engineering agreement gives students an international edge

Delegates after the signing - UniSA and KBU International college

Malaysian and Australian engineering students will be able to study “side by side” but nearly 5000 km away when a new agreement between the University of South Australia and KBU International College is signed this week.

According to the University of South Australia’s Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President of the Division of IT, Engineering and the Environment, Professor Robin King, the agreement will provide outstanding opportunities for students who will be able to remain in Malaysia while they study the identical curriculum to the Bachelor of Engineering program offered by UniSA within Australia.

The University of South Australia and KBU International College will sign a Memorandum of Agreement for Malaysian and international students to enrol in the University of South Australia’s Bachelor of Engineering and complete the first three years of the program at KBU College in Kuala Lumpur and then transfer to the Mawson Lakes Campus of the University of South Australia for the 4th year to complete the program.

“The agreement will give the Malaysian students and international students studying in Malaysia the added advantage of graduating with an engineering degree which will be fully accredited by Engineers Australia,” said Professor King.

“Today’s engineers are at the forefront of innovation and change in a range of global industries. Collaboration on this scale between Malaysia and Australia to educate engineers can only be of enormous benefit to these students as they move into the working world,” he said.

“The University of South Australia is a global university with significant partnerships with universities and educational institutions in Asia. International students studying UniSA degree programs through institutions in other countries are a major part of our student community. The opportunity to work with KBU to educate young engineers will strengthen the relationships between our countries academically, culturally and in business and trade.”

The first three years of the engineering program will be taught by academic staff from KBU International College this will be supported by face-to-face teaching by UniSA Academic staff on a regular basis in the 2nd and 3rd year of the program,” said Prof King.

‘The high quality of the teaching and learning facilities and academic staff at KBU International College Campus will contribute significantly to the academic success of international and Malaysian students enrolling in the program’ he said.

Subject to approval by the Malaysian Minister of Education, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of South Australia will offer the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems Engineering); Bachelor of Engineering (Telecommunications); and the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Mechatronic Engineering) through the new twinning program at KBU International College.

The formal signing of the Memorandum of Agreement will take place on Saturday the 3rd of July at KBU College in Kuala Lumpur.
