KDU College and the University of South Australia
join forces to graduate master communicators

Malaysia’s KDU College and the University of South Australia will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on August 25 2003 that will see a special Master of Arts program in Communications Management offered at KDU within the next six months.

The new program will give graduates and practitioners in public communications or the media relations fields an important opportunity to extend their knowledge and capabilities.

UniSA already offers its Masters in Communications Management in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

UniSA’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Education Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Michael Rowan says the MOU to deliver the new Masters program establishes an important partnership between two institutions committed to innovation and quality.

“We are pleased to be working with KDU College because of its established reputation as a leading provider of education and educational resources in Malaysia,” Professor Rowan said.

“There are important synergies between our two institutions – we are educating students to become modern professionals, we have developed active learning environments that embrace new technologies and we have an international outlook which keeps us engaged in global educational partnerships.

“We hope this MOU will be an important first step in a fruitful partnership, providing important educational opportunities for students in Malaysia.”

The new Masters program includes nine modules and a case study component – a total of 200 hours of lectures and or seminars or 20 contact hours per module over 18-36 months. The program will be delivered combining intensive in classroom sessions and online delivery. Key topics covered include – communication in the global context; public relations concepts and techniques, new communications and media technologies, strategic marketing, and advertising management and more.

The program will cater for students with a three-year degree and or appropriate prior learning and applicants are expected to have two years work experience at managerial level.
