Urban and Regional Planning

Our landscape is a mosaic of cities, towns, suburbs, neighbourhoods and rural areas. The practice of urban and regional planning is essentially about designing and managing the shared spaces in which people live. Planners have the social responsibility of setting the policy framework within which land use is managed and development takes place. This important role aims to make our cities, towns and regions visually appealing, ecologically sustainable, socially inclusive, efficient and economically productive.

A particular emphasis is placed upon ensuring that areas cater for different groups and individuals in an equitable, ethical and inclusive manner and that our cities, towns and regions provide a high quality of life and a range of opportunities for all.

While there are no particular prerequisite courses or programs required, studying Urban and Regional planning at UniSA will ensure that you have the appropriate education required of a planner, and that you have completed the educational requirements prescribed by the peak professional planning body in Australia, namely the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).

Over 60 Years of Planning Education

UniSA's Urban and Regional Planning program commenced in February 1949 and is the longest established town planning program in Australia. In 2009 we celebrated 60 years of Urban Planning at UniSA.

This highly recognised program has a vast alumni network with industry and employers, that you as a graduate can utilise when seeking out future employment.

Planning scholarships

At UniSA we believe tertiary education should be a viable option for everyone, not just a privileged few. Our scholarships offer financial assistance and, in many instances, valuable work experience opportunities lead to employment.
