The Bachelor of Sustainable Environments (Geographical and Earth Systems)
What does it take?

There are no formal Year 12 prerequisite subjects, and none of the
first year courses assume prior knowledge. You will need to possess
a real interest or passion in geography and environmental issues
will be well prepared to undertake this degree. Personal qualities
and experience are very important. Bringing about real change in the
way society interacts with the environment requires not only
knowledge, but the ability to encourage community participation and
coordinate community activities.
Who will employ me?
As a graduate, it is likely that you will gain employment in state
government departments such as:
Primary Industries and Resources,
Environment and Heritage,
Land Water and Biodiversity. Federal
Government departments such as Geosciences Australia and
Environment
and Heritage would also recruit students from this program.
Geosciences Australia earthquake and natural hazards group are
typical employers. In the private sector graduates of this degree
will find employment from organisations ranging from urban planning
consultants, through mapping companies to agricultural and
environmental consultants.
Professional recognition
Graduates of this program will be eligible for membership of the
Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI), and after a period of employment
will be eligible to apply for general certification as a Practising
Spatial Scientist.
Further study and further work experience may lead to certification
as a specialist in one of the six commissions of the SSI.
Professional recognition by other bodies (Environment Institute of
Australia, Environment Business Australia, etc) is being pursued.
