Bachelor of Sustainable Environments (Environment Protection Management)
What does it take?
![]() What can you do about air pollution? |
There are no formal Year 12 prerequisite subjects, and none of the first year courses assume prior knowledge. However a passion for geographical processes, the environment and people is a definite advantage.
Personal qualities and experience is very important. Bringing about
real change in the way society interacts with the environment
requires not only knowledge, but the ability to encourage community
participation and coordinate community activities.
Who will employ me?
As a graduate, it is likely that you will gain employment by state
government departments such as: Primary Industries and Resources,
the Environment Protection Agency, Environment and Heritage, and
Land Water and Biodiversity. Federal Government departments such as
Geosciences Australia, Australian Greenhouse Office and
Environment and Heritage would also recruit students from this
program. Local Government will employ Environmental Officers to
undertake environmental impact assessments and hence graduates of
this program will be able to meet this challenge.
Professional recognition
Graduates of this program will be eligible for membership of the
Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI), and after a period of
employment will be eligible to apply for general certification as a
Practising Spatial Scientist. Further study and further work
experience may lead to certification a specialist in one of the six
commissions of the SSI. Professional recognition by other bodies
(Environment Institute of Australia, Environment Business Australia,
etc) is being pursued.
