
Sustainable Urban Settlements
The Centre has been involved in several Australian Research Council (ARC) funded projects relating to sustainable urban settlements and intelligent buildings. The research, supported by $320,000 in funding, was conducted with Murdoch University. It incorporated the design of urban villages and the potential for communications technology to replace the need to travel. Collaborating industries include A V Jennings, Gerard Industries and Apple Computer Australia.
Social Applications of GIS
The Centre is a partner with the School of Surveying (University of South Australia) in this key Centre led by the University of Adelaide.
Cost Differentials in the Housing Industry
The Centre undertook Part Two of this study, 'Non Labour Market Issues', in collaboration with the CSIRO. The study, funded by the Department of Health, Housing and Community Services, compared housing types throughout Australia on a state-by-state basis.
Industry Linkages
The Centre has been involved in a $100,000 DEET project focusing on 'Industry Linkages'.
Impacts of the Building Code of Australia
The Centre has undertaken a three stage study into the impacts of the BCA on the SA Cooperative Bulk Handling installations. The study resulted in a Building Practice Advisory Circular and preparation of a Ministerial Specification to meet the special requirements of bulk handling and storage facilities.

The Centre is a partner in an AusAID-funded project which focuses on developing planning capacity in local government in the Philippines. The Centre provides a building certification process for the Department for Building Management, and is 'on call' to provide advice on building surveying, planning, traffic and architecture to the East End development project.
The Centre undertakes building inspections, conducts tests on the quality and suitability of building materials and attends referee hearing on building issues.
A planning service provides assistance with policy development and Statements of Effect, representation before council and expert witness support in the ERD court.
Continuing Professional Development
The CBPS presents an annual program of workshops and seminars in collaboration with the Planning Education Foundation. Such events are designed to support competency training and meet the requirements for maintaining professional status as required by the Royal Australian Planning Institute, the Australian Institute of Building and Surveyors, the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and other associations.
Short Courses
The CBPS is designing and conducting short courses in Urban and Regional Planning and Management. These courses are presented in conjunction with the State Government of South Australia and the Local Government Association of SA. The courses are supported by the Multi Function Polis (MFP Australia) and cover theoretical and applied aspects of planning and examples of best practice in urban development.
The Centre offers specialised training modules to other universities and industry including the South Australian Housing Trust, the Housing Industry Association, the LGA and local councils.
