Transport Systems Engineering

People and goods need to be moved from one place to another and hence transport has an influence on the daily lives of millions of people in Australia and around the world. Often the best systems used by people are those that are invisible or taken-for-granted. This is often the case with transport systems. For example, memories of the Sydney Olympics for most people include the tremendous performances of many Australian athletes and competitors but do not include the transport systems used to move thousands of people daily to and from the competition venues.
Why? Because the systems worked very well. They worked well because of the skill of the people who planned, designed, built and controlled the train, ferry, bus and plane systems. This is one example of the importance of transport in our lives and the contribution the transport profession makes to the well-being and enjoyment of people.
