of the employment pages reveals just how diversified this profession has
become.
For example, job advertisements featuring project management as an accounting skill almost doubled between 1999 and 2000, and a Project Manager in the IT sector is one of the highest paying technical positions in the industry. The number of positions which specify project management skills as a pre-requisite or desirable have doubled in the past 18 months
In the 21st century, due to the innovation in technologies, globalisation and higher expectations from various stakeholders, business competition will be severe.
More stringent project control and setting of priorities will be put in place. IT will be extensively used in all areas of control. Hence competent project managers will be increasingly demanded and their selection, training, evaluation and retention in appropriate industry environment become important in future.
Graduates from our programs should be able to perform as project managers at appropriate levels in multi-discipline industries including:
Information technology
Construction and engineering
Design and architectural
Business and media
Service-based industries, etc
The functions of a typical project manager shall include:
Establish a project brief within its environments;
Prepare project plans to meet project objectives and requirements;
Develop documentation to achieve project objectives within time, cost and quality;
Use appropriate management tools for monitoring and control of the projects;
Understand the use and application of effective project management techniques throughout the life cycle of a project.
The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) has certification programs leading to RegPM status. It is a competency-based workplace assessment program based on the National competency Standards for Project Management. The RegPM award identifies professional project managers who attain and maintain best practice application of project management.
There are three levels of awards:
Qualified Project Practitioner (QPP)
Registered Project Manager (RPM)
Master Project Director (MPD)
