How will this enhance my career?
Postgraduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning are taught primarily
at the University's City East campus in the heart of the historically
planned city of Adelaide. This city centre location is a great advantage in
providing ready access to planners and other professionals working in
practice. There are strong links between academic topics and professional
practice throughout the program. A number of courses are taught by staff
drawn from professional practice, while University staff work closely with
the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) to ensure that students have
access to professional seminars and events.
Graduates in recent years have found themselves working in state and
national agencies on projects such as the planning and design of new towns
and suburbs, energy-efficient housing, new public transport services, the
protection of heritage buildings and landscapes, coastal planning and many
more. A number of planning graduates alsowork on the assessment of
development proposals in local and state government planning agencies,
including the assessment of the environmental impacts of major projects. The
private sector is also a significant employer of planning graduates.Postgraduate
studies in Urban and Regional Planning at UniSA prepare
graduates from a wide range of backgrounds for challenging and well-paid
careers. Planners work at a range of scales – local, state,
national and international – and provide advice to governments, private
developers, local communities and other participants in the urban
development process.
