Facilities and asset management
The activities of Facilities and Asset Managers can range from high level
strategic decision making through to the operational management of
facilities. They are responsible for coordinating physical assets,
information technology and human resources of organisations to provide the
most effective service delivery.
Facilities and Asset Managers are employed in both the public and private sectors and in both areas they ensure that the assets of an organisation are aligned with the organisations business objectives.
Virtually all organisations with infrastructure and property assets of any scale have a Facilities and/or Asset Management Department. As organisations strive to make more effective use of existing assets and seek more sustainable solutions to new assets, then the demand for properly educated and qualified Facilities and Asset Managers will increase.
Professionals involved in asset management can have variety of backgrounds including finance, business, property, architecture, design, engineering and construction. Undertaking a program in Facilities and Asset Management will provide these people with a structured academic framework, which will enhance their skills and knowledge base. In addition, there is a group of people in management positions who are from a trades background who will benefit from higher level planning and management skills.
