Postgraduate studies in Environmental Management and
Sustainability at UniSA have been designed to develop the skills
necessary to perform as a professional in the field of environmental
management and sustainability. In South Australia, where the state's
total environmental effort is managed through Natural Resource
Management Boards, these qualifications provide invaluable skills and
opportunities for graduates. Developed from industry’s demand to meet
the growing diversity of responsibilities and challenges encountered by
managers in this field and the growing demand for skilled resource
management practitioners, this new program explores the theory and
practice of managing and sustaining our natural environment.
The UniSA Environmental Management and Sustainability program will help
to develop:
The program has been designed for those already working in the natural
resource management area who want to broaden their skill base and for
those with generic undergraduate education (such as engineering) who are
interested in moving into the natural resource management area. The
program has been developed with extensive input and support from
industry, who have been involved in the design of course content and
delivery methods. An industry based advisory group has also been
established to oversee the delivery and application of the program to
ensure it continues to meet industry standards. In addition to this,
some of the courses are delivered by industry practitioners from across
various government departments as well as private enterprise.
Courses are offered internally with some online components and supported
by online learning materials. Some courses will be offered in intensive,
block mode and most courses are offered in the afternoons, tailored to
full‑time workers studying part time. The contemporary content reflects
the current state of play in environmental management and sustainability
in Australia and overseas and creates work ready professionals ready to
meet the challenges of modern day resource management.
UniSA offers the most up to date GIS and spatial data analysis equipment
for students of this program with all GIS laboratories equipped with the
latest software that meets industry standards. The program offers the
unique application of geospatial sciences in the context of natural
resource management. It is also unique in that the combination of
courses has been particularly tailored to people working in the natural
resources management industry or who want to work in that industry at an
advanced management level.
Professional Recognition:
Graduates of either the Graduate Diploma or Masters in Environmental
Management and Sustainability who undertake the Geospatial Science stream
will be able to use this qualification as partial recognition towards
specialist certification by the Spatial Sciences Institute.
