Transport Facilities

The National Laboratory for Transport Network Analysis

The Transport Systems Centre (TSC) has assembled a significant research infrastructure for use in its projects.

This infrastructure has been integrated into the National Laboratory for Transport Network Analysis (NLTNA), a facility for computer-based modelling and analysis of transport systems.

The NLTNA includes a wide range of state-of-the-art Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and commercial network analysis software packages as well as R&D models developed at the Centre.

The Laboratory has state-of-the-art computer hardware and maintains copies of major software products for traffic simulation, transport network modelling, signalised intersection design and analysis and related urban traffic issues.

Commercial software packages currently operated by the NLTNA include QRS-II, EMME/2, TranPlan, TRIPS, TrafikPlan, Paramics, SCATES, aaSIDRA and INTANAL. GIS packages are TransCAD and MapInfo, in addition to all ESRI products including ARC/INFO and ArcView.

The NLTNA also holds copies of the Metropolitan Adelaide Household Travel database and the ABS Adelaide journey to work database, as part of the TSC's on-going collaboration with Transport SA. The TSC also offers training courses in TRIPS, Paramics and aaSIDRA.

The NLTNA is used as the primary facility for the TSC's integrated research program in transport network analysis. The current R&D program includes many projects that use the resources of the NLTNA.
