Dr David Ness
Prof 'Mannie' Manhong Liu, financial adviser to China
Government, head of No 1 finance course in China, and vice Chair of
Venture Capital in this important emerging economy, visited Adelaide
22-25 February. Prof Liu has a special interest in financing clean
technologies, and was in Adelaide to identify workable technologies in
the renewable energy and water area and to help SA companies introduce
them to China. China has a great need to improve energy efficiency and
to overcome pollution.
Her visit was arranged by Dr David Ness, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow
and Exec-Chair,
Ecological Development Union International and her schedule was
kindly prepared by Ms Trixie Smith of Dept Trade and Economic
Development. Prof Patrick James and Prof Wasim Saman both had the
pleasure of meeting Mannie, who was interested in solar thermal project
at Whyalla and the solar car, among other innovations. She is also
seeking to secure a major investment in South Australia.
Prof Liu also hopes to arrange for 2 of her brightest students to spend
time in Adelaide to research waste management polieices and practices,
also the costs and benefits of energy efficient housing. Her visit is
also expected to lead to a long term relationship between SA and China
involving government, industry and universities, all collaborating in an
integrated manner.
