Learn about the nine planets in our solar system and some of the moons
orbiting them. Discover the history behind astronomy and how early
astronomers worked out the distances to stars, the magnitude of stars
and more about the deep sky wonders of our galaxy. Find out about
enigmatic objects like Black Holes. This course is designed for the
adult beginner with no previous, or limited astronomical knowledge, who
would like to know more about the night sky and the wonders of the solar
system.
COST: $160.00 per person
Public Viewing Sessions
Public Viewing sessions are held on the first Saturday afternoon of each
month at 2:45pm and finish around 4:00pm. There is no need to make a
booking.

- Congratulations to Delene Weber, George Zillante, Jian Zuo,
Stephen Pullen, Bassam Baroudi and Peter Kentish who have all been
awarded Doctorates in 2008.
- Operation Possum was officially launched on Wednesday, 20 August
at the Mawson Centre, Mawson Lakes campus. The launch involved a
live broadcast of “Mornings” with Matt and Dave” who interviewed
Prof Chris Daniels and Philip Roetman live on air. School children
from Mawson Lakes Primary and Endeavour College were also invited to
attend to learn more about possums from presenter Janine Slocombe.
It was a wonderful opportunity to Show case the School of NBE and
the University.
- SA Water has expanded it's offerings for scholarships in 2009 -
one SA Water Undergraduate Scholarship in Civil Engineering and
Placement and two SA Water Undergraduate Scholarships in Civil
Engineering (with no placement) are available and open to both males

Scholarships at UniSA
- The 2008 Planning Study Visit to Kuala Lumpur, and Penang
(Georgetown) from September 13 to 27 was a great success. The visit
was partnered with Malaysian universities University Sains Malaysia,
the International Islamic University and the University of Malaya.
Dr Matthew Rofe coordinated the course and was ably assisted by
Andrea Jorgensen. 20 students from both the undergraduate and
postgraduate planning programs enrolled in this course.
- The Australian Institute of Building Professional Excellence in
Building Annual Australian Awards Night was held at the Hyatt Hotel
on Friday, 26 September. Former UniSA student, Mark Maxsted from
Baulderstone Hornibrook (SA) was awarded the major Australian
Building Professional of the Year Award. Maxsted was recognised for
his work on the “Place on Brougham” in the Residential
$50-$100million category. Max was selected as an individual to be
the AIB Building Professional of the Year as the entrant who had
shown outstanding excellence.
- On Wednesday, 15 October the School was involved in "Ride to
Work Day", an initiative of Mawson Lakes Community, UniSA and Delfin.
Event Organiser Janine Slocombe represented the School at the
breakfast event to promote the alternative method of travel to and
from work and was assisted by NBE students.
- On Friday, 24 October the annual BOSS Dinner was held at the
Hyatt Hotel and was yet again a successful evening with more than
200 guests in attendance. The evening was jointly sponsored by
Ahrens and Built Environs, as well as by the School of NBE.
Highlights of the evening included a presentation of student awards
including the Justin Cole prize as well as the presentation of two
“Friends of the University of South Australia" plaques to Graham
Fricker and Leslie Thompson for their combined contribution of
almost 100 years to Construction Education.
- The 2008 State
of the Environment Report was launched on Thursday, 27 November.
Several UniSA contributors were acknowledged including Professors
Michael Taylor, Chris Daniels, John Argue, Simon Beecham and Stephen
Hamnett.
- Recently retired long-time member of staff, Mr Colin Sharpe,
wishes to thank all who attended and contributed to his farewell BBQ
in December.
The buzz that you hear when a bee approaches is the sound of its four
wings moving at 11,400 strokes per minute. Bees fly an average of 15
miles per hour.
