Awards
- The SA Water Centre for Water Management and Reuse was presented
with and award for ‘Collaborative Teaming’ by the Water Industry
Alliance for the contribution to the project, ‘Water Proofing the
Northern Adelaide Region Subsidiary’. Mr David Pezzaniti was
presented with the award on behalf of the Centre by the Chair of the
project.
- Fourth Year Bachelor of Information Technology (GIS and
Computing) student Ms Zhang Yong was awarded the Women in Spatial
Science (Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry) scholarship for 2008.
- UniSA graduate Mark Maxted took out the top national award in
the category of residential projects from $50 million to $100
million for his development Place on Brougham at the Australian
Institute of Building 2008 Professional Excellence in Building
Awards. Mark graduated from UniSA with a Bachelor of Building in
1996 and is employed at Baulderstone Hornibrook (SA).
- PhD student Helen Waudby received recognition at the ESA
(Ecological Society of Australia) Conference in Sydney. She is the
first recipient of the Nature Conservancy Student Research Grant and was in
competition with post-graduate students nation-wide.
- AsProf Julie Mills received a UniSA Award for Teaching
Excellence.
- Mrs Jayne Kwiatkowski (member of the First Years Experience
Team) received a UniSA Enhancing Learning Award.
- Mr Stefan Hornlund and Dr Peter Kentish received UniSA Citations
for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
- Mr Stefan Hornlund and AsProf Julie Mills received UniSA 2008
Quality Teaching Awards.
- Dr Delene Weber and AsProf Ian Clark received ALTC Citations for
Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
- Ms Virginia Mehrtens and AsProf Julie Mills were awarded an ALTC
Research Grant.
- Prof Chris Daniels won the Planning Institute of Australia (SA)
Commendation of 2008 Research and Teaching for the book Adelaide
Nature of a City.
- Dr Sada Karuppannan was awarded an Endeavour Research
Scholarship.
- 2008 UniSA IBPG Honours graduate Sharon Fitzpatrick won the
‘Young Planner of the Year’ Award at the PIA SA Awards on the 28th
October at the Capri Theatre, Goodwood.
- 2008 UniSA IBPG Honours graduate Chad King won the ‘Local
Government Person-Less Than 5 years Experience Award’.
- David Trotta received the ITEANZ Student
Award (Transport) for the University of South Australia in 2008.
- Prominent Adelaide QC Brian Hayes, also an adjunct professor in
Planning at UniSA, was recently appointed as South Australia's special envoy
to India.
- 2004 UniSA graduate Daniella Di Ciocco was awarded the highest
individual award for her work on Green Buildings at the National
Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards.
- ICE WaRM's Masters in Water Resources Management was awarded the
Australasian Association for Engineering Education Excellence Award
for 'Programmes that Enhance Learning', in the sub-category of
'Educational partnerships and collaboration with other
organisations'.
Grants
- Stephen Pullen, Jon Kellett & George Zillante, together with
Industry Partner Hindmarsh Constructions, have been awarded $35,000
by the SA Department for Families & Communities to research
Affordable Housing & Development. Hindmarsh Constructions has
matched the Government’s contribution thereby providing a total of
$70,000 for the project entitled EcoCents Living.
- Dr Sekhar Somenahalli was recently awarded a divisional grant of
$6500 for a project entitled ‘Development of a method and a tool for
estimating bus ridership in a medium sized city’ under the
Competitive Grant Development scheme. He had also received an
industry support grant of $10K from the Department of Transport.
- Prof Chris Daniels and School of Education Staff, David Lloyd,
Yvonne Zeegers and Kathy Paige, received an $11,600 Division of
Education, Arts and Social Sciences Grant to examine the way in
which Schools responded to Operation Possum.
- The Centre for Sustainable Urban Environments received an ITEE
Divisional grant of $20,000.
- Linda Zou received a $20,000 grant from the Australian Korean
fund on behalf of the SA Water Centre for Water Management and
Reuse. Funding will be contributed to the "Treating concentrated
membrane filtration waste by combined mediated electrochemical
oxidation and adsorption processes" project.
