Call For Abstracts

The Australasian Universities Building Education Association (AUBEA) has been running an Annual Conference since 1975. The 34th Annual Conference will be hosted by the University of South Australia at the Barossa Novotel Resort in Australia’s premier wine region, the Barossa Valley, South Australia from the 7th to the 10th July 2009.

Conference Theme: “Managing change – challenges in education and construction for the 21st century”.

Australia has for some time now been riding on the crest of a development boom. That boom has been driven by Australia’s sound economic position and the world demand for many of our resources. With the financial meltdown that is now starting to affect world markets the Construction industry will be affected. What form will this take? How will this impact on university education and research? What will industry want from our graduates? Does the fact that most universities around the world are judged by the amount and quality of their research affect the quality of graduates?  How can industry work closer with universities to achieve acceptable outcomes for both groups? Does industry have an obligation to fund research? What further education do graduates require when they enter the workplace?

The conference will provide the opportunity for academics and PhD students across the broad spectrum of construction education to present their research to both their peer group and to industry bodies. Opportunities will also be provided for concentrated workshop sessions aimed at learning styles and innovative teaching methodologies. One session will be set aside for the Australian Teaching and Learning Council projects currently being undertaken in the Construction area.
